“STRONG TO THE FINICH! AN OFFICIAL POPEYE TRIBUTE ART SHOW” Celebrates 85 Years of Popeye the Sailor Man

CHOGRIN-POPEYE-TEASER_2014_LEGAL_REVISIONCurated by Ecuadoran artist and Popeye uber-fan CHOGRIN in collaboration with King Features Syndicate, “STRONG TO THE FINICH! AN OFFICIAL POPEYE TRIBUTE ART SHOW” features more than 100 artists from around the world paying unique tribute to the legendary sailor, created by E.C. Segar in 1929.

The show, which is free and open to the public, will premiere on September 5th, 2014 at Hero Complex Gallery (7-10pm PST) and runs through September 21st, 2014. The show is sponsored by Popeye Spinach and Popeye Energy Drinks.

Popeye Salutes Fleet Week New York

Fleet Week New York is the City’s time-honored celebration of the sea services. After a one-year absence, Fleet Week has returned to New York. From now through May 27, nearly 1,500 service members from the U.S. Navy, Marines and Coast Guard will arrive in New York City and participate in ship tours, parades and aerial demonstrations.

Popeye would like to salute the organizers and service members who are participating in this year’s Fleet Week New York celebration!

TIME OUT NEW YORK Features Graffiti Artist Crash’s Mural of Popeye

Click to enlargeCheck out the current issue of Time Out New York! Our Mighty Mariner is on the cover in a fantastic mural rendered by  Bronx-born graffiti artist Crash (a.k.a. John Matos).

The Time Out editors used the eye-popping artwork, which was painted on the wall at Bowery and Houston Street, to illustrate their story “Amazing Outdoor Art in New York.”

How cool is that?
